Behind the pages.
When I was five years old, I wrote a story about a little boy who wandered into the jungle and had the adventure of a lifetime.
I clumsily stuck eight A4 pages together with a stapler, drew illustrations between my words, and proudly presented my first “book” to my mom.
Maybe that was where it all started; or at least that’s my earliest memory of falling in love with writing, the joy of telling stories, making sense of ideas, and sharing them with others.
Over the years, that love grew. It eventually led me to Rhodes University to study journalism, where I discovered I wanted to write every day. Since graduating, I’ve had the privilege of telling stories in many different forms, from newspaper features and magazine articles to digital campaigns, websites, blogs, and email marketing.
As a journalist, I wrote everything from travel and positive to travel, business and human-interest stories. Every assignment I got handed reinforced something I had learnt as a child: the best writing is about understanding people, asking the right questions, and telling stories that resonate long after people read the words.
Today, I bring that same mindset to every project. Whether crafting or throwing away words on a website, building an email campaign and agonising over the “perfect” subject line, refining a brand’s voice or editing someone else’s words and experiences, my goal is to communicate with purpose and authenticity.
Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to work with brands including Lexie Hearing, Eargo, hearX, The Collection Perfumes, Saint-Gobain, accidentANGELS, Umvuzo Health, Modern Athlete Magazine, Intelligene and CaB Sports, creating content across websites, newsletters, blogs, social media, video scripts, and digital campaigns. Alongside this, I’ve edited academic theses, ghostwritten books, developed educational content and contributed to AI writing projects. All of these experiences have strengthened my ability to adapt my voice to different industries and audiences.
As a writer, the thing I enjoy most is learning. Every project is a chance to ask questions, discover something new and tell a story that informs, inspires, or simply makes someone stop and think.
My illustrations have improved very little since I was five years old. Thankfully, my writing has.
